NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering) will be officially getting of the new title of Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) and included in the schedule of IIM Act. After the passing of IIM Act Amendment bill 2023 by Parliament on August 8, 2023 and getting President’s nod on August 11, 2023, NITIE has now become IIM Mumbai, the 21st IIM in India and the 2nd IIM in Maharashtra state after IIM Nagpur and will award MBA degree instead of Post Graduate Diploma. The director has confirmed that the 2022-24 and 2023-25 batches which are already on campus, will graduate with an IIM certificate.
Presently, NITIE accepts overall CAT scores for admission but from now on, after becoming an IIM, admission for the 2025-26 batch will probably be amended to include sectional cut-offs as well. In the revised NITIE IIM Mumbai Admission 2024 criteria, NITIE IIM Mumbai Eligibility may also be changed. As of now, it is not confirmed if they will accept non-engineers as well. We can expect more clarity around or after CAT 2023.
As of now, NITIE had been separately conducting the application and admission process, which might change now that it is IIM Mumbai.
