Any form of diversity in a learning environment is beneficial to student development. Diverse knowledge and viewpoints are especially brought by gender diversity when analysing an issue and finding a workable solution. Especially in management education, where real-world examples are utilised to demonstrate case studies. Today, several prestigious B-Schools are confirming the pattern that when corporations come in for placements, they especially recruit female students. All of this is due to the fact that businesses are required to meet the diversity criterion in hiring just as much as business schools do during admissions.
The gender ratio on campus has been reversed at IIM Raipur, which enrolled 205 females and 125 males in the class of 2022, reversing the ratio of 146 males and 120 females who were admitted the previous year. IIM Kozhikode has also had a significant female student base, with 46.7% of the students being female.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur made history this year by admitting more females than males, at a time when management institutes all over the world are attempting to bring gender balance in male-dominated business education classrooms.
The average gender ratio in the top 6 IIMs is 33.5 percent female in the top 6 IIMs. of the remaining 14 IIMs, two campuses have over 50% female students in the 2019-21 cohort. IIM Sambalpur had 50 female out of 98 students, and IIM Rohtak had 124 female out of 246 students. For IIM Rohtak, this is a significant jump from 2016, when only 6% of the batch was female.
IIM Kashipur has one of the greatest percentages of female students in the last ten years, and it has performed better than older IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata in terms of gender diversity, with 43% women.
While many IIMs have reached the benchmark of having 30% female students this year, other prestigious universities like the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta are gradually edging closer to that. Female students applied to business schools worldwide at a higher rate than men, according to a GMAC poll on application trends conducted in 2021.
Additionally, many management institutes have vowed to diversify their student bodies. In order to ensure gender diversity, IIM Calcutta has established a "gender diversity policy" that grants four extra points after students have satisfied the basic standards for overall excellence and other academic requirements. This would have a significant impact on the incoming batch of B-School freshers in India too.
