How much importance is given for extra curricular activities in IIM interviews?

Hey Sharmila, extra curricular activities are not mandatory for getting into IIMs, but they are definitely an added advantage. Achievements in competitions, elocution, debates, sports, dance, music, etc at recognisable levels will be valuable for your interview. Having an in depth understanding of you hobbies will also help you ace your IIM interviews.

The shortlisting criteria are a mix of CAT score (typically the highest weightage), academic scores, work experience and academic/gender diversity. Extra curricular activities will come up in the selection process and you should highlight your achievements. But other points such as your work experience, your academic performance and current affairs are also important and can help you sail through.

All the best for your prep!

I would like to know how extra curricular activities would help in cracking IIM interviews, will it be a disadvantage if I have not participated in any extra curricular activities.
